UVライトやダイオードの光りをプラスチックの対象に照らしだすことで妖しげな世界を生み出すクロード・エステーブと、北朝鮮で自身が出会った女性や少女たちの日常生活を独自の視点で捉えたクリスティーヌ・シベール。ともにフランス人の二人による写真展を、「京都グラフィー国際写真フェスティバル サテライトイベント ”KG+”」の一環として開催します。
同じ写真という表現方法でありながら、それぞれが違った観点を持った、その率直な「まなざし」が見る者の心を揺れ動かします。春の季節がほのかに香る京町家の空間に展示された、それらの作品たちとじっくりと静かに向き合う時間をお楽しみください。
「ラジウム・ガールズ」クロード・エステーブ
RADIUM GIRLS (ラジウム・ガールズ)は、1920年代に アメリカの蛍光塗料としてラジウムを時計の文字盤に塗装する会社で多くの女工が顎に放射線障害を負った史実から、イメージが湧いた作品です。UVライト、ダイオードや蛍光 スノースプレーの光と、私たちのグローバル化されたプラスチック文化とが融合してクローズアップされた色と光の 妖しげな世界は、商品美学とは別の不気味な雰囲気を創りあげています。
クロード・エステーブはフランス人の写真家で日本のビジュアル・カルチャーの専門家です。元コンピューター・エンジニアでもあります。フランスの文化機関である京都ヴィラ九条山のレジデント・アーティストでした。

RADIUM GIRLS is a spectral reminiscence of the historic "radium girls case" in which young American female workers were fatally contaminated by radioactivity due to the negligence of the factory hiring them.
UV lights, diodes, glow-in-the-dark snow are combined with close-ups of plasticartefacts of our globalized culture to create an eerie mood where bright colours and advertising aesthetics are diverted into an uncanny atmosphere.
Claude Estèbe
Claude Estèbe is a French photographer and researcher in Japanese visual studies with a background of engineer in computer science. He is a former resident of the art program Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto.

「Meeting the dongmu」クリスティーヌ・シベール
「ドンムに会う」クリスティーヌ・シベール
クリスティーヌ・シベールはフランス人女性で、2006年4月から2008年12月までを国連勤務の夫とともに隔絶した国、朝鮮民主主義人民共和国に住んでいました。この展示は、彼女の眼を通して見たその国の姿です。
一連の写真はすべて、クリスティーヌ・シベールが出会った北朝鮮の女性や少女たちのさまざまな様子を捉えています。彼女は平壌や 他の地域での彼らの日常生活を伝えようとしました。それには文化的な違い、言葉の壁、外国人との接触への恐怖が伴い、撮影には極めて細心の注意を要しました。
This exhibition presents DPRK seen through the eyes a French woman who lived in the hermit state between April 2006 to December 2008, as her husband was working there for the UN. With a selection of images, all dedicated to various kinds of North Korean women and girls encountered, Christine Cibert tried to show their everyday life, either in Pyongyang or in the province, with their cultural differences, the linguistic barrier and the fear of contact with foreigners, which made a delicate
task to take pictures off the beaten track.
Christine Cibert
Christine Cibert is a French art curator born in Paris in 1970. She majored in Japanese language and culture and in Art History studies at Paris University (Paris 7 and Paris 1). She has lived and worked in Tokyo for more than ten years as an art-dealer, coordinating cultural events, curating exhibitions for art galleries and cultural centres
(Institut Franco-Japonais). She has also worked as a free-lance journalist for various medias: magazines such as France-Japon Eco, Kateigaho International Edition, Jipango, radio and television such as France Culture, France 5. Since 2000, she has extended her activities to Cambodia, Korea, Switzerland, Paris and Rangoon, into museums (Mus
ée Guimet) and photography festivals (Angkor Photo Festival, Yangon Photo Festival).
She is also the secretary member of Gilles Caron foundation.

第2回「KYOTOGRAPHIE国際写真フェスティバル」を2014年4月19日から5月11日に開催します。当フェスティバルは、華やかな春を迎えた 美しき日本の古都、京都を舞台に、伝統文化と現代アートの融合を図る唯一無二の国際写真フェスティバルです。今年度は、「Our Environments〜私たちを取り巻く環境〜」をテーマに、その規模は家族の風景という身近なものから火星の表層という宇宙規模のものまで、普段特 別に意識することの少ない様々な環境について、写真を通して考えていきたいと思います。
